Saturday August 16 Astronomy Talk

$5.00

Enjoy a family-friendly astronomy talk by one of our knowledgeable volunteers followed by viewing through a variety of small outside telescopes (weather permitting). Talk begins at 9:00pm. Note: a separate Dome Tour ticket is required for viewing through our 30” telescope.

Title: Astronomy and the Ancient Puebloans

Presenter: John Czernicki

Description: The year is 1054 C.E., the place: Chaco Canyon.  The Puebloan people of the southwest were obsessed with astronomy, using the stars to guide their lives from the construction of their buildings to the timing of their religious festivals.  So what happens when a new star, bright enough to be seen during the day appears in the sky?  Join local educator and observatory volunteer John Czernicki to find out!
